The best days for cupping hijama
It is important to perform Hijama according to the Sunnah.
The best days for cupping (Hijama) are the 17th, 19th and 21st of the Islamic, lunar month. There are many authentic narrations in the hadith to explain and support this.
Anas ibn Maalik radiAllaah anhu reported that the Messenger SalAllaahualayhiwasallam said,
“Whoeverwants to perform cupping (Hijama) then let him search for the 17th, 19th and
21st…”
[Saheeh Sunan ibn Maajah (3486)].
The moon
has a huge influence upon Prophetic medicine in Islam and mentioned frequently
throughout The Holy Quran. The moon has a huge impact upon all life forms on
Earth including human beings, animals, fish, plants and water bodies, because
of its gravitational pull on Earth. It causes all fluids to rise at particular
times of during the monthly lunar cycle. This also includes a change in the
human body, thus the recommended times to perform Hijama. It all has to do with
gravitational pull and the levels of the four fluid humors (black & yellow
bile, blood and phlegm) and water inside the human body at certain times of the
month. Just as the moon affects the tide of the ocean, it affects the human
body.
According
to Ibn Sina’s research, the four humors inside the human body were on the rise
and in a state of agitation during the full moon. The full moon pulls the blood
towards the skull during the full moon. As the moon begins to wane in the third
week of the month, the fluids begin to recline in the body. The residue that is
left over in the upper parts of the body is septic and should be removed
through hijama, in order to cleanse the blood and cardio-vascular system.
Ibn Umar
radiAllaah anhu reported that the Messenger salAllaahu alayhiwasallam said,
“Cupping (Hijama) on an empty stomach* is best. In it is a cure
and a blessing. It improves the intellect and the memory.
[Saheeh Sunan ibn Maajah (3487)].
* ‘alaa
ar-reeq in arabic means to fast until after being treated with cupping. Once
the treatment of cupping has been completed, one may eat and drink.
As for
the Islamic day and night, the night enters before the day. So at sunset on
Tuesday, Wednesday night comes in. Cupping (hijama) is best performed during
the daytime between the adhaan of fajr and the adhaan of maghrib because yawm
in arabic means daytime.
